25 Jun Trader Joe’s market officially confirmed for NoHo West project at former Laurel Plaza shopping center
“The talk of Trader Joe’s coming to North Hollywood isn’t just talk anymore.
Merlone Geier, the developer for the NoHo West project taking shape at the corner of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Erwin Street, confirmed Tuesday that the specialty market is coming to their 15,000-square-foot grocery space.
The Monrovia-based specialty market is one of the anchors that the development will bring to the former Laurel Plaza shopping center location. The developer also announced a Regal Cinemas, Ulta Beauty and 24 Hour Fitness last summer, along with a slate of other tenants.
The project will include commercial and retail, office space and eventually 642 residential units on about 25 acres.
Trader Joe’s inclusion in the mixed-use development has been assumed for about a year, but the famously secretive market and the developer had yet to officially reveal the name of its grocery tenant.
The Los Angeles Daily News reported last January that Trader Joe’s, well known for its wine section and unique items, had filed applications with the city of Los Angeles, including for zoning permission to sell alcohol for off-site consumption in a 15,180-square-foot space. The grocery store also has a pending application with the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control department.
The initial 570,000-square-foot phase of the NoHo West project, which includes the commercial and retail areas, is expected to be completed this summer. The residential portion of the NoHo West project is being built by Trammell Crow Residential and Barings Real Estate as part of a later phase of the project.”
